What's Happening in Crazy Cat Lady's Library?

I am sure my regular followers have noticed that lately I have not been posting much, and I decided it was time to let everyone know what's going on in CCL's world. I have a chronic medical condition that sometimes simply takes over my life, which has been the case of late. It's not life-threatening, just annoying as heck, and often prevents me from spending much time online. I would love to be able to tell you that in a certain number of days or weeks all will be back to normal, but unfortunately this condition is totally unpredictable so I can't do that.

All I can do is ask all of you to be patient with me. If you are currenty waiting for me to review a book or product for you, I promise I will follow through on everything I have committed to as soon as I am able. If you would like me to consider reviewing your new book or product, as long as you are willing to wait a while and don't have a short deadline, we may be able to work something out. If you are one of my beloved supporters and readers, please hang in there with me, and I promise to continue to post things of interest as often as I am able.

I would also like to take this opportunity to invite all of you to consider doing a guest post or guest review here at CCLL.(*) If you have a hobby or collection or unique pastime you think CCLL readers would find interessting, I'd love to provide you with a place to post and share your passion! If you've read an awesome book or tried a fabulous new product lately and want to reccommend it to others, CCLL would be a great place for you to do that! And if you want to provide negative feedback (as long as the critique is constuctive!) on a book or product that turned out to be a stinker, you can do that, too! Just send me an e-mail if you are interested, and I'll get back with you as soon as I am able!

*Crazy Cat Lady reserves the right to edit any guest posts or reviews submitted for publication on her blog. All changes would be discussed and cleared with the original author prior to actual posting.

Rose in a Storm By Jon Katz: Book Review and Givay (US and Canada PLUS International)! - CLOSED

Anyone who has ever owned an animal has had the thought at one time or other: “I wonder what he/she is thinking?” Rose in a Storm by Jon Katz provides us with a glimpse into the mind and thoughts of Rose, a working border collie, intuitively and effectively answering that question for us. Not only do we get the opportunity to share Rose’s daily routines, we are also treated to glimpses of her memories and emotions. We see through her eyes the relationship she shares with her owner, Sam, and his wife, Katie, whose sudden disappearance from the farm bewilders and saddens her. We are given access to her memories of when she was a puppy and of when she first meets the alpha wolf of the local pack.

At the beginning of the book, Rose and Sam are preparing the farm and its animals for an upcoming blizzard, one predicted by the local authorities to be a “storm of the century.” As they work together to erect vital strongholds for the other animals to survive the oncoming atmospheric onslaught, we are not only given insight into Rose’s thoughts but Sam’s as well, and the resulting give and take of their relationship is as intricate as a fine ballet.

When the expected blizzard finally arrives and Rose and Sam are faced with far more serious challenges than Sam could have ever anticipated, Rose shows a steadfastness of spirit and tenacity that is truly amazing. With fortitude and valor, she never stops trying to keep everything together and everyone safe, even as the world she knows keeps spinning ever further out of control.

Rose in a Storm is a truly inspiring story. I was so engrossed in its unfolding that I had a truly difficult time putting it down. This is the first of Mr. Katz’ books that I have had the pleasure to read, ut I assure you that it will most certainly not be the last! I give Rose in a Storm 5 pawprints!

Book Review and Giveaway (US only): Blue Bells of Scotland by Laura Vosika - GIVEAWAY CLOSED

Did you know that everyone’s name has a meaning? For example, Shawn Kleiner’s name means self centered. And he certainly lived up to his name. As the critically-acclaimed virtuoso of the orchestra and an unabashed ladies man with an undeniable gift for blarney, Shawn didn’t care who he took advantage of or who got hurt as long as everything always went his way. But eventually the day came when his disenchanted girlfriend Amy, weary of his selfish ways, had finally had enough and left him high and dry in the tower of a ruined Scottish castle. Surprised by Amy’s behavior and totally defensive of his narcissistic motives, Shawn decided to remain where he was, enjoy the picnic he had brought with them, and worry about finding his way back to their hotel and the orchestra in the morning. Except when morning arrived, his entire world was changed…

Fourteenth-century bard Niall Campbell of the Clan MacDonald was as talented with the harp and song as he was with the sword. Well known as a mischief maker as well as warrior, Niall was the clan chief’s future son-in-law and most trusted champion. When Niall suffered an injury on the day before he was to embark on an extremely dangerous mission for the clan, his fiancĂ©e Allene, fearing for his health and safety, tried to talk him in to letting her accompany him. They argued about it in the castle tower, and Niall, having imbibed too freely of the ale that evening in the hopes of easing some of his physical discomfort, ends up falling asleep on the top of the parapet. As the mist swirled around him and he drew his cloak close around his body, his last thoughts were for the mission he was to embark upon in the morning. But when he awoke the next day, he found himself in much more dangerous territory than he could have ever imagined…

This is how Blue Bells of Scotland by Laura Vosika begins. What follows is an amazing adventure in two different lifetimes, as Niall and Shawn find themselves somehow switched into each other’s existences. Filled with humor, intrigue, and tumult, I found this to be an entertaining beginning to what I hope will be a compelling trilogy. I give Blue Bells of Scotland 4 paws!
